Assistant Conductor’s Competition
Thus, Maria Camila Barbosa became the second conductor in the history of this outstanding orchestral achievement. In the talk before the concert, she acknowledged that when she received the score for Schattenhaft, it was difficult for her to imagine the sound that could result from its intricate writing. Well, although it might not be the compositional style that the Colombian conductor has worked with the most, it is essential to recognize that she studied Schattenhaft thoroughly, a piece she seemed to know inside out from its entry markings and rhythmic emphasis. Just for her daring in conducting this piece in concert, as well as what she later demonstrated in Beethoven, Barbosa has earned, if not the position of assistant conductor of the RFG, at least the merit to one day stand on the podium of the Galician orchestra, as the Colombian certainly possesses the right manners and technique: a promising baton, without a doubt.

Así pues, la segunda directora en la historia de esta sobresaliente página orquestal ha sido María Camila Barbosa, que en la charla previa al concierto reconocía que, al recibir la partitura de schattenhaft, le costaba imaginar la sonoridad que podría resultar de su intrincada escritura. Pues bien, aunque quizás no se trate del estilo compositivo que más haya trabajado la directora colombiana, es obligado reconocer que ha estudiado a conciencia schattenhaft, obra que parecía conocer el dedillo por sus indicaciones de entradas y por su énfasis rítmico. Ya sólo por su atrevimiento al dirigir en concierto esta obra, así como por lo demostrado posteriormente en Beethoven, Barbosa se ha ganado, si no el puesto de directora asistente de la RFG, sí el merecimiento de subirse al podio de la orquesta gallega en el futuro, pues buenas maneras y técnica no le faltan a la colombiana: una batuta, sin duda, prometedora.
